How does booking a Labuan Bajo boat trip actually work?
Booking runs through the Driftwater Voyages trip desk, operated by Komodo Luxury — a Labuan Bajo operator working the park since 2015, with reservations handled directly by its own team. There’s no checkout maze and no bidding war. You confirm three things — trip length, cabin tier, and departure date — then hold your seat with a deposit.
Here’s the full sequence, from first message to boarding:
- Message the concierge. Send your dates, group size, and preferred trip length to WhatsApp 628113823875 or sales@komodoluxury.com. Every table row below has a Check dates button that opens a pre-filled message for you.
- Get a live availability quote. Komodo National Park caps visitors at 1,000 per day across the entire park — Padar, Komodo Island, Pink Beach and every dive and snorkel site — under a February 2026 regulation summary. Seats and dates are finite and must be booked and paid in advance, so the desk confirms what’s actually open before you pay a rupiah.
- Choose shared or private. Lock a single [shared open-trip](/shared-open-trip-komodo/) seat, or buy out the whole boat as a [private charter](/private-boat-charter-komodo/). Both are quoted per duration.
- Pay a deposit to hold it. You’ll get a written invoice listing the boat name, the itinerary, and what’s included. Always insist on that document — local reports warn that some Labuan Bajo boats cut corners on safety, so a registered company, boat photos and safety-equipment confirmation are non-negotiable.
- Pre-register your passport. At least one day before departure, send a passport copy showing your photo, plus full name, nationality and passport number, to the boat host. As of 2026 this is mandatory; passport numbers alone are no longer sufficient, and passengers who skip it can be refused entry.
- Board in Labuan Bajo. Meet the crew at the harbor. The crew usually collects the full park fee in advance, and guests often reimburse it locally in IDR cash on arrival.

Shared open trips run two to three days and up. A 3D2N seat starts around IDR 3,000,000–3,750,000 per person and rises to about IDR 7,500,000 for higher cabin classes on more luxurious boats. Private charters start near IDR 10,000,000 per day and climb with boat size and amenities. Shared open trip or private charter — which should you book?
A shared open trip is the value pick: you join a mixed group, split the boat cost, and follow a set itinerary through Padar Island, the ranger-led dragon treks on Komodo and Rinca, Pink Beach snorkeling, Manta Point, Taka Makassar sandbar and Kalong Island’s sunset flying foxes. A private buyout gives your group the whole vessel, a flexible route, and control over pace — the natural choice for families, honeymooners and groups of six or more.
Both tiers carry the same park rules. All treks on Komodo and Rinca must be led by a certified ranger; independent walking isn’t allowed. Life jackets are worn during speedboat travel and rough seas, and snorkeling stays inside designated zones because currents run strong.
What park fees are paid separately?
Park fees sit on top of your boat fare and usually aren’t included. These are commonly the weekday rates, as of 2026 — weekends may add a surcharge.

One myth worth killing before you budget: a proposed IDR 3,750,000 international-visitor conservation fee was never implemented. Earlier proposals floated IDR 2,900,000–5,800,000, but those were past proposals, not current charges — present fees are far lower and closer to the table above.
When is the best time to book?
The dry season, April to November, brings calm seas, sun and excellent underwater visibility — the window most travelers want, so premium dates go early. The rainy season runs December to March with rougher water, and most multi-day boat trips pause from January to March, though one-day speedboats typically keep running.
Getting there is simple: Labuan Bajo sits on the western tip of Flores, and Komodo Airport takes daily flights from Bali, Jakarta and other Indonesian cities. From town it’s roughly one to two hours by boat to the park — faster by speedboat, slower on a traditional phinisi — while the once-daily public ferry from Labuan Bajo Port runs about 2.5 hours.
