The boat turns toward its anchorage while day boats race back to Labuan Bajo. The deck goes quiet for the first time all day.
- 17:40 · Kalong Island
On most 2- and 3-night routes, thousands of flying foxes stream out of the mangroves at dusk — watched from the bow, not a crowded viewpoint.
- 19:00 · Dinner on deck
The crew cooks aboard — simple Indonesian food, rice, fish, vegetables. Shared tables on open trips; your own table on charters.
- 21:00 · Anchor lights and stars
Generators drop to low; away from town light the sky is genuinely dark. Deck mattresses go out for anyone who wants to sleep under it.

If night 1 was spent in the Padar-side bay, you climb the viewpoint before the day-trip fleet arrives — first light, savanna ridges, almost nobody there.

Are Komodo National Park fees included in the trip price?
No. Park entrance, ranger, trekking and activity fees are charged separately at cost, because they are set by the national park and vary by nationality and activity.
What is the difference between an open trip and a private charter?
An open trip means you join a shared boat with other travellers on a fixed departure — the cheapest way to sleep aboard. A private charter gives your group the whole boat, its own route and its own schedule, priced per boat rather than per person.
Can I book a last-minute boat trip from Labuan Bajo?
Often, yes. Outside peak season (July–August and the year-end holidays) shared boats frequently have berths available one to three days out. Peak dates and whole-boat charters should be booked weeks or months ahead — details on the last-minute trips page.
