Availability here is not the same as “is there a boat.” Boats exist year-round. What runs out is the combination you actually want: a specific departure date, a specific trip length, a cabin class you like, and a confirmed park slot to match. Below is exactly how that scarcity works and how to lock a seat before someone else does.
How does availability actually work in Komodo National Park?
Three separate things have to line up for a date to be genuinely “available.”
First, the park cap. As of a February 2026 regulation summary, Komodo National Park limits entry to 1,000 visitors per day across the entire park — Padar, Komodo Island, Pink Beach, Manta Point and every dive and snorkel site included. Slots must be booked and paid in advance, so a boat can be half-empty while the date itself is closed.
Second, pre-registration. Every passenger must send a passport copy showing the photo, plus full name, nationality and passport number, to the boat host at least one day before departure. Passport numbers alone are no longer enough, and travelers who skip this can be denied entry. That one-day lead time is a hard floor on last-minute booking.
Third, the entrance ticket and park fees. Every visitor must hold a valid entrance ticket before entering, and all treks on Komodo and Rinca must be led by a certified ranger — independent walking is not allowed. Park fees sit separate from your boat fare and are usually not included: as of 2026, entrance runs about IDR 150,000, trekking about IDR 115,000, snorkeling about IDR 15,000, and a ranger about IDR 80,000–100,000 per group, with possible weekend surcharges. The crew typically collects the full Komodo Park fee in advance, and guests often reimburse it locally in IDR cash on arrival. Note also that a previously floated international-visitor conservation fee of IDR 3,750,000 was not implemented; current fees are lower.
Which dates are hardest to book?
The dry season, April to November, is prime: calm seas, sunny skies and excellent underwater visibility. It is also when the 1,000/day cap bites hardest. Inside that window, June through August and Indonesian public holidays are the tightest, and premium and luxury phinisi cabins on 3D2N and 4D3N routes are the first to disappear.
The rainy season runs December to March with rougher seas. Most multi-day boat trips pause from January to March, though one-day speedboats typically keep operating. So “no availability” in February usually means the sleep-aboard fleet has stood down, not that every date is booked.
Use this as a planning rule of thumb — lead times are guidance based on typical demand, as of 2026 and subject to change:
