How do you book a Komodo liveaboard from Labuan Bajo?
Booking is a reservation, not a walk-up. You confirm dates and trip length, choose a boat class and whether you want a shared open trip or a private buyout, then hold a specific cabin — or the whole boat. Nothing is secured until a deposit is paid and passenger details are registered, a direct result of the park’s advance-booking rules.
Shared open trips let you pay per person and join other travelers on a set departure. Private buyouts give you the whole boat for your group, on your dates. Driftwater sells both side by side at every duration, so a couple can join a 3D2N open trip while a family of eight books the same boat privately.
How far ahead should you reserve?
Timing follows two pressures: season and the daily cap.
The dry season, April to November, is peak — calm seas, clear water, and the highest demand. July and August are the tightest weeks of the year and fill first; luxury cabins on those dates can go three to four months out. Most multi-day boat trips pause from January through March in the rougher rainy season, when only one-day speedboats typically keep running.
On top of that, a February 2026 regulation summary caps the entire park at 1,000 visitors per day — Padar, Komodo Island, Pink Beach and every dive and snorkel site included. Spots must be booked and paid in advance, which is why last-minute liveaboard seats are scarce even off-peak. As a working guide: reserve 2–4 months ahead for July–August, and 4–6 weeks for other dry-season dates.

Shared fares climb with cabin class and boat quality — roughly IDR 3,000,000–3,750,000 at the value end to about IDR 7,500,000 for premium cabins. Private charters start near IDR 10,000,000 per day and scale with boat size and amenities. For contrast, a one-day speedboat tour runs about IDR 600,000–1,500,000 per person — a different product entirely, with no overnight anchorage.
What does booking actually involve, step by step?
- Send your brief. Dates, trip length, group size, and shared vs private. We check live cabin availability against the 1,000/day cap.
- Hold your cabin or boat. We reserve the specific space and quote the fare plus park fees in writing.
- Pre-register every passenger. Each guest submits a passport copy showing the photo, plus full name, nationality and passport number, to the boat host at least one day before departure. Passport numbers alone are no longer accepted — without the copy, entry can be denied.
- Pay to secure. A deposit locks the booking; the balance and park fees follow. The crew usually collects the full Komodo Park fee in advance, and guests often reimburse it locally in IDR cash on arrival.
- Get it in writing. You receive a written invoice, boat photos, and safety-equipment confirmation before paying in full.
- Board in Labuan Bajo. Komodo Airport receives daily flights from Bali, Jakarta and other cities; the park is about 1–2 hours by boat from town.
Book only through a verified company with registered business details, ask for boat photos and safety confirmation, insist on a written invoice, and be wary of unusually low prices — local reports note that some boats in Labuan Bajo are not safe.
What isn’t included in the fare?
Park fees are almost always separate from the boat fare. These are the common weekday rates as of 2026 (weekends may carry a surcharge), set by the park, not by us:

A drone permit was reported at about IDR 2,000,000 and needs official permission. A previously floated international-visitor conservation fee of IDR 3,750,000 was not implemented; earlier IDR 2,900,000–5,800,000 figures were proposals, never current fees. Every visitor must hold a valid entrance ticket, all Komodo and Rinca treks must be ranger-led, and life jackets are required on speedboat legs and in rough seas.
When can you sail, and where do you go?
Standard routes take in Padar Island for the panoramic sunrise or sunset hike, ranger-guided dragon treks on Komodo and Rinca, pink-sand snorkeling at Pink Beach, manta snorkeling at Manta Point, the Taka Makassar sandbar, and Kalong Island’s sunset flying foxes, with extra snorkel stops such as Angel Island. Longer 4D3N–5D4N routes push west toward Lombok via Saleh Bay’s whale sharks. April to November delivers the calm seas and visibility that make those stops worthwhile.
